This music attracted and took hold of the young generation of the United States as it shook their senses with a new rhythm, beat, energy and almost tribal passion and excitement they had never had before. At first only middle class “white” teenagers felt attracted to it and that it was their own (rocknrollzone.com), but with the fusion of “black” blues, Rock n’ Roll soon became music for everybody. Or maybe not for everybody: the society other than the teenagers, the elder people and the authority, completely disapproved it (rocknrollzone.com). Parents hated it; the cultural mix of white and black people presented Rock n’ Roll as “racial music” and caused its censure for being too rebellious, sexual and anti-social for the people in those years. The elder generation saw this music and heard it as a manifestation of evil itself (rocknrollzone.com).
The first stars to come up were musicians like Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and Carl Perkins. While Chuck Berry established the ground rules, Lewis and Perkins contributed with a country feel with Little Richard topping it all off with his showmanship. But if Elvis Presley is the King is because he put all these styles together in a way that changed popular music for all time: the original Rock n’ Roll consolidated (rocknrollzone.com).
Elvis possessed an amazing voice that could communicate any rock 'n' roll style almost to perfection; he connected with his music and his audience. His most successful era encompassed 1956-1963 (rocknrollzone.com). He mixed 'black' and 'white' styles and became popular and controversial because of his television performances. Teenage girls became hysterical over his sexual gyrations, particularly the one that got him nicknamed "Elvis the Pelvis" and which TV cameras were not permitted to film (imdb.com).
Rock n’ Roll music when it came up, besides from bringing new social attitudes, and rising a new generation of teenagers, brought new forms of artistic expression: new ways to perform and dance, as Elvis’ dances. A fifties’ Rock n’ Roll band used instruments such as basses, electric and acoustic guitars, drums, piano and saxophones to perform, typical of this new music. About dancing, the music’s rhythm and beat inspired new forms of it, many of which exist to this day (rocknrollzone.com).

Hello Caro, hope that you are fine. Well, first I want to comment about your blog’s style. First, the images are related to your topic and they seem to have that rock and roll style. Also, the images seem like newspaper attached to a wall so I like that effect to.
ResponderEliminarWell, to start, let me tell you that I don’t know many things about music. I can barely identify the genres of the music, but what you explained about Elvis is quiet interesting. What I know about him is that he is one of the most famous artists in the world. What I didn´t know is that he is considered the creator of rock and roll. Also, I didn’t know that he managed to mix different styles of music in order to be more popular. Moreover, I agree with you about the power of his voice in his songs, because I’ve heard some of them and they have a good rhythm.
On the other hand, the rebellious stereotype that the elders made with rock and roll is weird. I mean, how did they manage to relate evil with a type of music genre? For me, that seems illogic because this music is just another form to express people’s feelings. Nowadays, I think that these ideas have disappeared a little bit, but they are still present in some families. To conclude, I think that rock and roll from the 1950’s was more calmed than nowadays’ rock because it includes less shouts from the singers. Well, that is my opinion; I will keep reading your blog Caro, take care.

I think that this topic about rock & roll is really amazing (: and I had read that fact about Elvis and his pelvis in a magazine haha pretty cool. Well... during that years, society considered "sex" as a censored topic so, that is the reason why they were against its use on music and even public acts (television). It is really interesting how music has been changing through all these years, how rock & roll was at first considered as “racial music” and then, all kind of people started listening to it. Nowadays, this genre started to have different subgenres such as Hard Rock, Classic Rock, Rock, Alternative Rock, etc. In my opinion, Elvis Presley was a great influence not only to the Rock genre, but in music in a whole because he became a figure of inspiration for several bands and singers.
ResponderEliminarI prefer to listen to subgenres of rock that started to emerge during the 1970’s - 1980’s, for example: AC/DC, Aerosmith, Queen, Journey, etc. that, obviously, were created in response to the origin of rock & roll. Well, about your blog… I think that it is awesome to talk about music because it is a very interesting and demanded topic. It would be cool to read more about this genre and I also think that this blog is going to be really helpful in order to know a little bit more about the most famous bands during that period. Honestly, I really loved your topic and I’m sure that you are going to be able to do something brilliant with it… Congratulations!
Caro! Ho´ve you been?! Haha sorry for not commenting on your last post. This one is particularly interesting. The hairstyles, the dance techniques and the music by itself were all incredible and amazing. Was The rock and roll part of the baseline movement? I know you are not supposed to talk a lot about that kind of pop style but it´s very related, I guess ...
ResponderEliminarAbout Elvis Presley, well I knew him as "the king" by "Lilo & Stitch" xD ...
But he is indeed a timeless icon of the movement and the entire culture. WTH with the Elvis-Pelvis movement?!?!
PS. Take a look to your foreground color ... it is difficult to read several paragraphs.
Take care
Danyel
Hi there Caro! I did not know that you were writing about rock and roll of the fifties in this week. I must say that I do not know anything about it, but your post just taught me so much about it. It is very interesting to know about all this history of the rock and roll, and I will say that I only know Elvis Presley. I am in accordance with you, Elvis was the first one who began the movement of the rock and roll. He was so creative with his music, so brilliant, and he changed the world’s view of the rock and roll. Elvis Presley made the best music in his time, and he will be permanently with us with his music.
ResponderEliminarIn conclusion, I liked very much your blog; I actually believe that you chose such a good subject for a blog. Rock and Roll can give several good themes to discuss or maybe to remember. The rock and roll music is one of my favorites. Something else, I want to ask you: When are you going to talk about ACDC? It is my favorite band with U2, and I want to know more about them. I think that you can mention some interest information about them. Well, thank you for this 5 minutes reading.
